important
information on the care of Baby Rabbits. At PETS PANTRY we sell our
rabbits from 10weeks of age. This is a minimum of 3 weeks after weaning but your
rabbit is still classed as a baby until the age of 16 weeks and should be
treated appropriately. 1.
When you get your rabbit home for the first time
settle it into its hutch and leave alone for at least 24 hours. He will
be very frightened of new surroundings and people and should be left to become
confident with you and his new home over a few days. Only handle your rabbit for
a short time every day until your rabbit
becomes confident with you. Remember
this is a baby animal not a furry toy and should be treated as such. 2.
Diet. Only
feed the dry mix provided by us with your rabbit and plenty of best quality hay.
Your Rabbit should have a supply of clean drinking water. Do not change this
diet until the rabbit is 16 weeks old. During this time do not feed treats, vegetables or grass.
Never fed lettuce at all. Once your rabbit is 16 weeks then gradually
introduce small amounts of vegetables (carrot,
cabbage etc). 3.
Young Rabbits can suffer from stress related problems
at this age and this shows as diarrhoea. If this is severe it can be fatal. We
strongly recommend that you follow our guidelines as they are based on over 10
years experience of breeding and selling rabbits. If your rabbit does show signs
of diarrhoea then remove the dry food and leave the hay and water for 24hours.
If the rabbit does not improve then seek veterinary treatment. If you follow the above guidelines and remember that a baby rabbit is
easily stressed and therefore should be handled with care, you should have a
long and happy relationship with your new pet.
